According to Eneström, "The 'curvae triangulares' were defined by Euler as 'curvae, quae tribus arcubus intus inflexis constant'; in other words, a kind of curve with three points of inflection."

According to the records, it was presented to the St. Petersburg Academy on May 12, 1774.
