E443 -- De motu vibratorio laminarum elasticarum, ubi plures novae vibrationum species hactenus non pertractatae evolvuntur
(On the vibratory motion of elastic laminates, where many new types of vibrations, not treated heretofore, are solved)
Summary:
(based on C. Truesdell's An idiot's fugitive essays on science: methods, criticisms, training,
circumstances)
In this paper and in E526, Euler
presents the fully explicit theory in solving the equation k4y''' = y using circular
and exponential functions. It includes accurate calculations of frequencies and nodal ratios for
vibrating bars.
According to the records, it was presented to the St. Petersburg Academy on September
21, 1772.
